Cinder Block Firewood Rack: How To Make

If roasting marshmallows by a fire pit is something you enjoy doing outside, you are aware of the importance of having dry firewood. And if you’re anything like me, you may have had trouble coming up with a useful way to store your firewood.

A simple and economical way to store firewood is a cinder block firewood rack. It is built of wooden planks and cinder blocks, and it is simple to put together. It is a good idea to have a backup plan in case something goes wrong. Other from that, it’s a cheap DIY project.

Prepare Cinder Blocks and Wooden Boards

To make your own rack, you’ll need cinder blocks, wooden boards, measuring tape, a circular saw or hand saw, and a drill. The first step is to measure the length of the wooden boards and cut them to the desired size – usually around four feet long. Once you have your wooden boards, you can stack the cinder blocks in a rectangular shape, leaving an opening in the middle for the firewood to go in.

Putting Cinder Blocks Stack by Stack

Start by placing four cinder blocks on the ground side by side. Then, place two more cinder blocks on top of each of the bottom blocks, creating pillars. Make sure the pillars are at the same distance from each other so that they’re even.

Now, place the wooden boards on top of the pillars, forming the first layer of your rack. Repeat the process until you reach the desired height. You can make it as tall as you want, depending on how much firewood you need to store.

Stacking Firewood in Crisscross Pattern

Once you have your cinder block firewood rack built, you can start stacking your firewood inside. It’s best to stack the firewood in a crisscross pattern, so there’s plenty of ventilation for the wood to dry out. And because the Firewood Rack is elevated off the ground, you don’t have to worry about the wood getting damp from the soil.

In addition to being a practical solution for firewood storage, the cinder block firewood rack can also be a visually appealing addition to your backyard. You can paint or decorate the cinder blocks to match your outdoor decor, and you can even add a roof if you want to protect your firewood from rain or snow.

Scalable Is The Way!

The best part about the cinder block firewood rack is that it’s scalable. If you need more storage, you can simply add another rack next to the existing one. And because it’s made out of inexpensive and easy-to-find materials, you can build as many as you need without breaking the bank.

So, if you’re someone who loves spending time outside around the fire pit, a cinder block firewood rack is a must-have. It’s easy to build, practical, and cost-effective.

And the best part? You’ll always have dry firewood on hand for your next backyard bonfire.
